Moral Foundations Questionnaire (MFQ-20) - Scoring Instructions

The MFQ-20 measures five moral foundations. Each foundation is assessed with two 'Relevance' items and two 'Judgment' items. Participants rate items on a 0–4 scale for Relevance and a 0–6 scale for Judgment.

Scoring Procedure

  1. No reverse scoring is necessary for the MFQ-20.
  2. For each moral foundation, identify the four relevant items using the table below.
  3. Average the participant’s responses for those four items.
  4. Higher scores indicate a stronger endorsement of that moral foundation.
